Timber stays in service

Linear takes and buries. Circular keeps.
A linear supply chain is a straight line: cut a tree, build a pallet, use it once, bury it. A circular one bends that line into a loop.
In our loop, a pallet keeps its value for as long as physically possible. It's reused whole first, repaired when it's tired, remanufactured when its frame is spent, and only ground for mulch when every board has given all it can. Each of those steps keeps solid wood at its highest use and defers the day new lumber has to be milled. That's not an add-on to the business — it's the physics of why a reused pallet is both cheaper and greener at the same time.
The carbon math
Why reuse wins on emissions.
The footprint of a pallet is mostly spent the moment it's first made — the felling, milling, drying, and freight of new lumber. Every extra life you get out of that same pallet spreads that one-time cost across more trips, so the carbon per use keeps falling.
The first life is the expensive one
Cutting, milling, kiln-drying, and hauling fresh lumber is where most of a pallet's embodied carbon goes. Reuse spends none of it again.
Avoided methane
Wood dumped in a landfill breaks down and releases methane, a potent greenhouse gas. Keeping pallets in service — or grinding them for mulch — avoids that release entirely.
Shorter freight loops
Sourcing and returning pallets within the tri-state means far less transport than shipping packaging across the country and back.

Nothing leaves as trash.
When a board can't serve as a pallet anymore, it still isn't waste. The cascade has a downstream use for every stage of a pallet's decline.
Combo pallets
Sound boards and blocks harvested from retired frames become remanufactured 'combo' pallets — brand-new stock from old wood.
Custom builds
Reclaimed lumber feeds our fabrication shop for custom skids, crates, and specialty units built to a customer's spec.
Landscaping mulch
Wood past structural use is ground into clean mulch for landscaping and grounds — a genuinely useful second product.
Biomass fuel
The finest ground material becomes biomass fuel, extracting energy value from wood that would otherwise be buried.

Are reclaimed pallets really more sustainable than new ones?
Yes. Most of a pallet's environmental footprint is spent making it the first time — felling, milling, drying, and freight. Reusing that same pallet avoids repeating all of it, so a reused or remanufactured pallet carries a fraction of the embodied carbon of a brand-new one.
What does 'zero landfill' actually mean here?
It means none of the wood we collect is trucked to a landfill. Every pallet is reused, repaired, or remanufactured for as long as possible, and only wood that can give no more is ground into landscaping mulch and biomass fuel. We've held that standard every year since 2015.
Can you provide diversion data for our ESG or sustainability report?
Yes. For recurring-account customers we log incoming volumes by source and can document the tonnage of wood we divert from landfill on your behalf each reporting period — concrete figures suitable for sustainability filings.
Why does landfilling wood matter if wood is natural?
Because buried wood decomposes anaerobically and releases methane, a greenhouse gas far more potent than CO2 over the short term. Keeping wood in service, or grinding it for mulch and biomass, avoids that release entirely.
What happens to a pallet at the very end of its life?
It becomes something else useful. Good boards and blocks are harvested for combo pallets and custom builds; the rest is ground into clean landscaping mulch and biomass fuel. There is no 'throw it away' step in our cascade.
Does buying local pallets reduce our footprint?
It helps. Sourcing and returning pallets within the OH-KY-IN tri-state means far shorter freight than shipping packaging across the country, which cuts transport emissions on top of the reuse benefit.
